Weekly Blog Challenge!

Howdy Dangos! This is Nik and I am hosting this week's Blog Challenge. For my challenge, I want you to tackle your stash and your fears. I know we all have a huge stash of eyelets that we are still trying to tackle so break those babies out and put some to good use. I want to see at least 10 eyelets on your creation. Bling, Bling, Bling. Who doesn't love bling? Be sure to add some bling from your stash and dazzle your project up a bit. Lastly, is doodling. This will probably be a tough one for many of you. I don't doodle much on my layouts but do on occassion so go ahead and show me some doodles. You can doodle outlines, flourishes, circles, dots or anything you like--just as long as it's doodled and not stampled. It must be hand-doodled without a templete. That's it! Simple enough, right? Here's my example layout to inspire you to get scrappin'

Blog Hop- Final Day!

Woohoo! If you're here, we're hoping it's because you've joined us for the last two days on our fabulous blog hopping journey! If not, be sure to check the posts below to catch up and find out all the details!

Today's ventures bring you once again to the Fall09/Spring10 Scrapdango Design Team blogs. Yet again, you'll collect a total of six ingredients to use on a new item- an altered item of your choice! You can choose any item you wish to alter (as you'll see from the DT examples) but you MUST include all six of the ingredients in the recipe! More are always welcome, depending on what you like! When you've completed your search and used the items in your own creation, link it to a post here on the Dango blog, or visit the Scrapdango forum to show us what you've done! We can't wait for you to share! Remember, everything must be completed by Monday night, November 16th at midnight, EST, so get going and good luck!

Blog Hop Day 2!

Hey There! Welcome back! If you're joining us for the first time, be sure to see the post below this one to get yourself caught up! If not, well then, let's get started!

Today's portion of the hop involves a layout recipe. Yet again, there are 6 different ingredients. In order to get all 6, you'll need to visit the blogs of each of the DT members. It's there that you'll learn a little something about each of their favorite items to incorporate on a layout and hopefully a little bit more about each of the members themselves! Remember, the details can be found here! You may even get yourself a chance to win a RAK or two along the way!

Don't forget- your layout is due by Monday, November 16th by Midnight EST to be counted as a draw toward the prize of one of Scrapdango's amazing monthly kits. You can upload your layout in the comments sections of the Scrapdango Blog or on the forums in the Progressive Blog Hop section.

Get out there and get back to hopping!

Meet the New Design Team Progressive Blog Hop!

So let's get this party started! It's time for the Scrapdango Progressive Blog Hop to begin. We have a wonderful new Design Team at Scrapdango, and we want to help you get to know them and to get some great challenges along the way, not to mention giving you a chance to win a wonderful prize of one of Scrapdango's awesome kits!

Now here's how this is going to work... You need to follow the order of the blogs of each DT member given below. At each blog you will find one part of a recipe that you will need to use on a project. There will be a total of 3 progressive recipe challenges. On Friday, we will be doing a DANGOS card recipe challenge, Saturday will feature a layout recipe challenge with our DT members' favorite items, and Sunday will feature an altered item recipe challenge. You will need to visit each of the blogs all 3 days to get the new list of items for the recipe for that day.

So for today, we have the DANGOS card recipe challenge. Each DT member has posted one item that starts with the letters in DANGOS, and you will need to include all 6 of those items on your card (there can be additional items as well). You need to visit each DT member's blog to find out what those items are. Once you have completed the challenge, you can provide a link to your project by posting a comment here and/or posting it in the Scrapdango forum . Be sure to come back tomorrow and Sunday and visit the blogs to get the recipe items that must be included on a layout and altered item.

For each of the 3 challenges that you complete this weekend, you will earn 1 draw toward the prize of a Scrapdango kit. You can also earn extra draws by doing the following:

1. Posting comments on all 6 DT blogs.
2. Inviting a friend that actively participates in the hop (they should leave a comment saying who invited them)
3. Posting on the Scrapdango forum something you learned about each DT member from their blog.

Well, those are the details, now it's time for you to get hopping!

The New Scrapdango Design Team!!!

It is always such an exciting time when a new design team starts, and Scrapdango is certainly exciting about our new, enthusiastic and talented designers coming aboard. But it is also a time that we typically have to say goodbye to designers that we have enjoyed and loved. A big hoot and holler goes out to Julie (aka lexea) who has been with Scrapdango for a number of years and has been the DT Leader for a number of terms. She has been a committed and gracious leader. I will miss her dearly. We also said goodbye to our beloved Ginni, but she assures me she will still hang her hat at the Dango. We will miss Alyssa and Keely also - great people and talented designers.

I am honored to announce our newest Scrapdango Design Team

Heather (hlough)

Lynn (iemom)

Take a Picture, It will last Longer Challenge

If you are like me, you are the family photographer. If you end up in a photo, it's either by chance or you've asked someone to take a picture of you. Why wait to sneak into a photo? Take a few pics yourself. There are a few different ways to take self-portraits. You can prop your camera on something, set the timer, run to pose, and pray that you got a good shot.....OR you can do it the easy way. First, go outside for good lighting. Position your camera in your dominant hand so that your index finger is able to push the button. (You may have to turn the camera sideways or even upside down.) Next, fully extend your arm at head level. Keep your arm steady and in the same position while snapping pictures. Turn your head and change facial expressions for different shots. Take several pictures. You may not be exactly centered, but that's the beauty of it. Most importantly, have fun! You'll love the results.

Create a layout with your fun and funky photos and share a link here by midnight 8/31. I'll randomly select one winner on 9/1 to receive a very COOL prize pack.
I can't wait to see your photos!

Recycle your Home Decor

Do you create projects to display in your home or do you tend to put them away in drawers or cabinets? Recycle some items around the house to create a project you're proud to display. This is a Welcome sign I created this weekend to hang in my entryway. I used a piece of cardboard packing for the base, added a clothing tag, and created a flower from old book pages. Let us see what you create.

“Enthusiasm is excitement with inspiration, motivation, and a pinch of creativity.”
Bo Bennett

"Anyone can give up, it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's true strength.”
Unknown

“Remember today, for it is the beginning of always. Today marks the start of a brave new future filled with all your dreams can hold. Think truly to the future and make those dreams come true.”

Fast and Fabulous Gatefold Cards

I love creating cards, but sometimes I want a different look instead of the traditional side open card. Gatefold cards are the answer and they are quick and oh so easy.

Materials:
Pink cardstock
White cardstock
Patterned paper
Stamps: butterfly, "Happy Day", "Happy Birthday", flowers
Brown ink
Markers: pink, yellow
Pewter mini-brad
Pewter photo turn
Punches: 1/16 inch hole
Paper adhesive
Instructions (courtesy of CardMaker Newsletter)
1. Vertically score an 8 1/2 x 4 1/4-inch piece of pink cardstock 2 1/8 inches from both sides; fold ends toward center to form a 4 1/4-inch-square gatefolded card.
2. Center and adhere a 1 7/8 x 4-inch piece of patterned paper to each front panel.
3. Stamp "Happy Day" onto bottom right corner of a 3-inch square of white cardstock. Center square on front of card 5/8 inch from top edge; adhere to left panel only.
4. Stamp butterfly onto yellow cardstock; cut out and adhere to white square.
5. Punch a 1/16-inch hole in right panel of card 1 1/4 inches from top and 3/8 inch from fold; attach photo turn with mini brad; use photo turn to hold card closed.
6. Inside card: Center and adhere a 4-inch square of patterned paper to card. Ink flower stamp; stamp image onto bottom of white cardstock. Ink "Happy Birthday" stamp; stamp image onto top of white cardstock. Add color with markers, if desired.

Sources: Cardstock (Bazzill), Patterned paper (Die Cuts with a View), Ink (Tsukineko), Stamps (Butterfly-Autumn Leaves, "Happy Day"/Flowers-Studio G, "Happy Birthday"-Stampabilities), Photo turn/brad (Making Memories).

      Earth Day

Wednesday, April 22 is Earth Day. I like to save cardboard packing and make my own mini-albums. I also save clothing tags, popcycle sticks, and bottle caps to use on my layouts. I try to use my paper scraps from layouts for cards and tags. This not only reduces waste, but also saves money. What are you doing to reduce, reuse, and recycle? Leave a comment and let us know for a chance to win this month's scrap goodies.

      Have you tried Wordle???

Wordle is a fabulous site where you can enter random words and create a multitude of different word scrambles. It is SO fun and SO addicting. These would be great on layouts, cards, albums... This is a scramble I created. http://www.wordle.net/ Post a link to your project that includes a word scramble and you'll be entered in this month's drawing for scrap goodies. Enjoy!

      Create Your Own Spring Flowers...

One of my favorite things about Spring is the blooming of beautiful Spring flowers. The bright colors of the tulips and daffodils make me so happy. This tutorial will show you how to add a bit of Spring to your projects.

      1. Cut eight 2" circles using any 2-sided Spring patterned paper.

      2. Fold each side of the circle toward the center, as shown.

      3. Arrange circles into flower pattern and glue edges of folds to each other.

      4. Cut one 1/2" circle from different patterned paper and adhere to center.

      5. Cut decorative leaf free-hand or from stencil.

      6. Enjoy!

We cut out all the ballots and put them in a hat.

Paige loves the part where she picks the winner and displays it for the camera. Look at that grin!

Can you make out the name?

      Challenge #7 ~ Easter Card

Here is a card I made for Easter using the Sugar Kit and the Sugar Kit Digital Add on. I used the Ranger Pearl Accents to highlight my For You Title. I apologize for the way the Pearl Flower center and the highlighted title seems distorted from the scan.

      Challenge #7:
Make an Easter card and send it to me at thynner5@yahoo.ca to earn a ballot for the monthly draw. Please put "Scrapdango Blog" in the subject line.

      Due Date: March 31st

      Draw Date: April 1st

      Challenge #6 ~ Multi Photos

I am guilty. I am guilty of using one photo on the majority of my layouts. I find I love to showcase that one special picture on my layouts.

I realized last week that I need to use more photos. Using more than one photo really helps to tell a story. Sometimes you take so may photos that it is hard to pick just one to use.

Here is a layout I did using my Sugar Kit for the month. It is a series of photos I took at a Children's Festival here in St Marys last year. Paige had never had a Sno Cone before and wanted to try one. Well... she really loved it. Who wouldn't?? They are so refreshing and a great way to cool down on a hot day!

Challenge #6: I would like to see you use 3 or more photos on your layout. Please email your creation to me at thynner5@yahoo.ca to earn a ballot for the monthly blog draw. Put" Scrapdango Blog" in the subject line.

      Challenge #5 ~ Chipboard Tutorial

It's finally starting to feel a little like spring right now. I love to see the smiles on my children's faces as they run around and play outside. They have dragged their bikes out of the shed and brought their inline skates up from the basement. The energy they exude right now is just contagious.

The new Sugar Kit has that same kind of energy. It just screams... Spring!! I used my chipboard that was included with the kit and altered it for my page. I watned to share how I did it with you:
Gather up some supplies and play along:
Glimmer Mist in two colors (I used Lime Green and Bubblegum Pink)
      Chipboard shape of your choice
      Heat Gun
      Tweezers
      Craft Mat or waxy surface

      1. Lightly spray your two colors on your craft mat or waxed surface. It is best to have some bubbles. If you get a blog, like I did with the green, just spread it out a little bit with the tip of your scissors or a toothpick.

      2. Lightly press your chipboard in one color and dry with your heat gun.

      3. Lightly press into the other color and dry with your heat gun.

      4. Continue layering until you achieve a look that you are happy with. Make sure to dry between layers.

Now it is ready to adhere to you layout.

      Challenge #5:
I would like to see you alter some chipboard. It doesn't have to be the same way as I did. Then, adhere it to your layout and email it to me at thynner5@yahoo.ca to earn a ballot for this month's blog draw. Please put Scrapdango Blog in the subject line.
